Riding the balance bike - Take II

Here is Ronan riding his balance bike after two weeks of practice.

Riding the balance bike - Take I

What's a balance bike you ask?
It's basically a bike with no pedals that allows a young rider to learn to balance a bike without the hassle of pedals in the way.

Here is a video of Ronan's first ride this spring.

Learning to ride

Ronan is moving up to his two wheeler this summer. A balance bike to be exact. The same as a regular bicycle except it doesn't have any pedals. The idea behind this bike is to get him used to pushing with both feet and balancing the bike.

Matthew drew him a road on the driveway for practicing complete with turns and stop signs.

Note: Both feet off the ground at the same time. "Gliding" as Ronan calls it.

Stay tuned for video coverage.

Spring Tradition: A visit to the sugar bush

I couldn't resist including this one which was taken a few days before the sugar bush trip just before bed.

Ronan loves the pony rides. For just $2 the ride includes a trip around the entire yard. Last year we had to walk beside him while he was on the pony. This year he was such a big boy and went all by himself. He even let go with one hand to wave at us.

The best part of visiting the sugar bush is taffy on a stick. We've been visiting this sugar bush since before Ronan was born and they have never been boiling when we are there until this trip. Of course even if they aren't boiling they offer the taffy on a stick.

Ronan looks great in his irish sweater, thanks Granny, it was the perfect day for it.
